Is the possession of marijuana products from California illegal?

One might say that, as a democratic nation, the United States is currently in a state of confusion with regard to whether the recreational and medical usage of the drug marijuana should be illegal. In California and Colorado, for example, recreational and medical marijuana are legal and individuals can buy a wide array of marijuana products from authorized dealers. However, in Georgia, the possession of marijuana is still unlawful -- and this includes the possession of products that might be legal in California and Colorado.

Nevertheless, the marijuana penalties in Georgia are not as severe as certain states with stricter penalties. In Georgia, marijuana is not a scheduled drug, yet it does fall under the jurisdiction of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act. Under state law, simple possession of marijuana in the amount of 1 ounce or less is a misdemeanor. Those who have been convicted could face fines of as much as $1,000 or 12 months of public works. Possession of more than 1 ounce of marijuana elevates the offense to a felony and the individual could go to jail for a minimum of one year and a maximum of 10.

Unfortunately, individuals who have enjoyed possessing recreational marijuana lawfully in other states cannot do so in Georgia, even if the marijuana product is professionally made. For the purpose of clarity, it should also be noted that marijuana remains illegal under federal law, so in a technical respect, marijuana continues to be highly illegal in every part of United States.
