Gwinnett County accident shows risk of box trucks

You are always taking on some risk when you hit the road, either on foot or in a vehicle. But Georgia and other states require insurance for vehicle owners because of the specific risks involved with driving. One of the greatest potential hazards faced by passenger vehicles are trucks and other heavy equipment.

Accidents have been happening since cars and trucks first appeared more than 100 years ago. But the technology to build heavier and faster vehicles put new dangers in the midst of drivers and pedestrians. Higher centers of gravity also matter in the case of a collision.

One person is dead after a sedan collided with a box truck in Gwinnett County. The victim's car ended up beneath the frame of the cargo vehicle after the crash, which shut down the eastbound half of a major road south of Duluth.

Box trucks and other rentable trucks have some of the same dangerous features of tractor-trailers, which must be operated only be trained and licensed professionals. The height of cargo compartments compared to most passenger vehicles can make it more likely for a car or small truck to become trapped under the rear section.

Victims of truck accidents and the family members of people killed in these accidents may have a case for financial damages, which can help in the difficult times after a tragic and unexpected collision. Damages may include compensation for loss of income as well as reimbursement for related medical expenses. An attorney can answer more questions about the legal aftermath of truck crashes.
