Bicycle crash in Savannah injures rider

Riding a bike is getting more popular in Georgia as a way of getting around, especially in cities like Atlanta and Athens. Unfortunately, that means that injuries due to bicycle accidents are on the rise as well. Riders need to be vigilant to protect themselves, and drivers need to get used to seeing more two-wheeled vehicles in their midst.

A cyclist was injured in Savannah recently when a car struck him on the road. The 57-year-old man was transported to a local hospital for treatment after a sedan struck him when he changed lanes in front of it.

The accident occurred on a Sunday night after dark, when bicycles are harder to spot. Drivers must remember to keep a sharp eye out for cyclists, pedestrians and others who could suffer grave injury if they are struck by a motor vehicle.

The driver may or may not have been liable for the crash, but the scene was complicated by the car speeding away from the scene of the accident. Abandoning the victims of a crash is a crime in Georgia and can lead to serious consequences. After all, an injured person could die while waiting for help if it is not called promptly.

Victims of bicycle crashes in Georgia may have a case for financial damages if it turns out that a driver was liable for causing the incident in the first place. An attorney can help examine the facts surrounding a bike accident and make a case in civil court if the evidence supports a claim for the sort of help that victims often need.
