Georgia driver narrowly escapes death in logging truck collision

If you've been on a road in Georgia today, the chances are that you came close to a vehicle larger than yours. Tractor-trailers are carrying freight everywhere in the Peach State, and construction zones are hubs for heavy vehicles that are many times heavier than cars and pickup trucks.

Accidents with these vehicles can be very dangerous, often resulting in serious damage or severe injury. The weight and momentum of large trucks are hard to stop and may roll right over other vehicles. This is why truck drivers have to be licensed for and well-practiced with the convoys they run.

A driver on Cleveland Highway near the Tennessee border is lucky to be alive after his sport utility vehicle was run through by several logs from a logging truck's trailer. The SUV collided with the back of the truck, which loosened some of its cargo and sent logs flying through the windshield as far as the vehicle's rear.

Despite the gruesome scene in Whitfield County, the driver was only treated for minor injuries. An extrication team managed to remove him before emergency response crews cleaned up the scene. Thousands of people delivered well-wishes online through social media.

Victims of collisions with trucks and other large vehicles have the right to seek financial damages to help with recovery from the damage and injury they suffered if the other driver or another party was at fault. An attorney can help review this option, advise on the right way to file a lawsuit and help support victims through a difficult time.
